The Philadelphia Zoo - Small Mammal House

First, your nose will have to adjust to the animal aroma when you first enter the building. Then your eyes will have to adjust to the darkness in the nocturnal animal area.

But once your senses have adjusted, you will discover some really fascinating animals in this building.

A male and female sloth occupy a large area near one entrance to the building. Across from them are meerkats and an aardvark. Tree shrews, elephant shrews, pygmy hedgehogs, gerboas, and zebra mice live in exhibits along the walls leading to the nocturnal animal section.

In the dark exhibits many creatures are lurking. Bats, lorises, giant jumping rats, echidnas, and more move around in the "moonlit" exhibits.
